Sally (of @actually.skin) is the the Social Media Content Creator and Merchandiser for Cirque Colors as well as our occasional hand model! She's been featured in The Glow Edit and Luna Beauty.
"Hi everyone! I'm Sally of @actually.skin and the Social Media Content Creator and Merchandiser for Cirque Colors! I'm a self-proclaimed meme connoisseur, Netflix addict, beauty junkie, and blogger. I love dabbling into different artsy hobbies so I'm a jack of all trades, but master of none. I love talking to everyone who interacts with the Cirque Colors social media accounts and I'm excited for everyone to learn a little bit about me. :) "
When you applied to Cirque Colors, you said you had "just learned how to paint your nails." What's your relationship with nail polish?
For some reason, I always thought that I needed to paint my nails in one thick coat. I thought the polishes I was buying were all really bad since they took forever to dry and always smudged. So ever since middle school/early high school, I stopped painting my nails since it took too long for the polish to dry. It took going to a nail salon for the first time, about 2 years ago, to realize that I was painting my nails all wrong! I learned to be patient and build up the coats of polish instead of globbing it on.
How did you start working for Cirque? How long have you worked for us?
I started working for Cirque after I left my old job. I used to work in the fashion industry but decided it wasn't for me and quit my job. During that time, I was focusing on my Instagram account and relying on freelance jobs there. I made an Instagram story post about accepting PR and getting paid as a freelancer and Kirsi responded, providing some useful insight! I took the chance and cold-emailed Cirque if they were looking for interns since I wanted to switch industries from buying to social media. Fast forward to now, I'm happily working as the Social Media Content Creator for Cirque Colors! It's been a wild ride but it's been a great 7 months so far!
What do you do for Cirque? Can you describe that role?
I work as the Social Media Content Creator and Merchandiser. I take photos of and edit the products, create fun Instagram stories, create a lot of what you see on our social media feed, as well as product planning and general organization of the websites! It's been great having more freedom to be more creative!
What's the question you're asked most frequently as a blogger?
I do beauty blogging on Instagram so I receive a lot of skincare, makeup, and nail polish PR. The questions I get asked the most are how I get PR and how I take my photos.
When it comes to getting PR, lot of it goes into analyzing how the brand presents itself and showing them that I can provide them with content that they want to see and can re-post. I do keep my own photography style but it's fun to switch it up!
Biggest tips on working from home?
If you're living in a shared space like I am, find a comfy spot, put on your headphones, and get to working! I also set up a timer for 25 minutes to power through everything then take a 5 minute break after. It helps me stay focused when there's so many distractions around me!
How did you get into blogging?
I got into blogging when my friend showed me @sortofobsessed's account! I liked how she was having fun with skincare and makeup, and being that I have acne-prone skin, I thought it would be a fun way to learn more about my skin, create a skincare routine, and treat myself well. It's been three years now since I started and I made so many great friends through the skincare and beauty community!
What’s one way you treat yourself?
One way I treat myself is to make plants to go outside and spend time with others so that I have an excuse to play with makeup! Since I do my skincare daily, it's become a routine and sometimes during the work week (pre-quarantine), there's not enough time to do full glam before catching the train. Makeup is meditative for me!
Who/what do you take inspiration from?
I take a lot of inspiration from architecture, photos I see on Instagram, food, fashion, decor, etc. There's not really one person I take a lot of inspiration from but a collection of things I see and people I meet and their work. I try to take pieces of what I like and put my own spin to things.
Top 3 Cirque Products?
The Green Tea Cuticle Oil Pen is a must have! I'm always losing this so I have backups haha. Everyone should have a magical holo topper in their collection! I love Delirium; it's so perfect for spicing up creme polishes and perfect for a fancy holo gradient mani that's easy to do! As for polish colors, it was really hard to choose my favorite but I always end up gravitating back to Cloud Nine as a single color polish to wear. I love my purples!
